Indiana Heads to Louisville for Fall Exhbition

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Indiana Baseball team will begin its fall exhibition slate on Sunday (Sept. 22), traveling
to Louisville for a scheduled 14-inning contest with the Cardinals. The two teams were scheduled to play last year
at Jim Patterson Stadium but the game was canceled due to weather.
Head coach Jeff Mercer returns a large core of his offense for the 2025 season, led by All-American outfielder Devin Taylor and infielders Josh Pyne, Jasen Oliver and Tyler Cerny. Catcher Jake Stadler, infielder Joey Brenczewski and outfielder Andrew Wiggins each played roles in the success of last year's team and could be asked to do the same next season.
The pitching staff, which lost weekend arms Ty Bothwell, Connor Foley and Brayden Risedorph, has been completely rebuilt through high school recruiting and the transfer portal. A number of arms returning for the Hoosiers thrived in their respective summer ball leagues.
Senior lefty Ryan Kraft was the Northwoods League Pitcher of the Year while sophomore Ryan Rushing, sophomore Seth Benes and junior Aydan Decker-Petty threw well in the same league. IU will also welcome back graduate students Ben Grable and Matthew Bohnert who missed the entirety of 2024 through injury.
True freshmen Hogan Denny, Jake Hanley, Cole Decker and Brayton Thomas have impressed in the early portion of fall practice and will get their first taste of playing for the Hoosiers this weekend. Pitchers Cole Gilley (Indiana State), Gavin Seebold (Southern Indiana) and Anthony Gubitosi (Delaware) come to IU with lots of division one experience.
Outfielder Korbyn Dickerson, a transfer from Louisville, will return to face his old team. The native of Jeffersonville, Ind. racked up 53 hits, 10 doubles, nine home runs and 50 RBIs with the Madison Mallards of the Northwoods League this past summer.
IU fans will have a chance to watch the baseball program at home for a fall exhibition on Oct. 5 against Cincinnati. First pitch is currently scheduled for 1:00 PM with free admission for all that wish to attend. More details on the Hoosier Fall World Series will be provided at later dates.
