Jan. 17, 2025
• The (-/RV) Indiana Men's Basketball team (14-5, 5-3 B1G) returned to winning ways on Friday (Jan. 17) evening with a 77-76 overtime victory over Ohio State at Value City Arena in Columbus.
• IU has now won consecutive games at Ohio State for the first time since 1995-1996. It was IU's second Big Ten road win of the year. IU overcame a six-point halftime deficit to win.
• The Hoosiers picked up their first overtime win on the road in Big Ten play since knocking off Northwestern on Feb. 10, 2021 in Evanston.
• IU scored the ball at a high level in the second half and in overtime. The Hoosiers scored 48 points over the final 25 minutes. In the second half alone, IU shot the ball at a 55.6% clip.
• IU's first lead of second half came on a made corner 3-point basket from Luke Goode at the 15:08 mark. The Hoosiers opened the half on a 14-6 run.
• This was the third game of the season – second in Big Ten play – that IU had two players with 20+ points in the same game (Goode – 23, Ballo – 21). It was last done at Penn State on Jan. 5, 2025 (Ballo – 25, Mgbako – 20).
• Sixth-year senior center Oumar Ballo provided 21 points on 8-of-14 shooting from the floor. He grabbed 15 rebounds and four assists in the victory.
• Ballo scored in double figures for the sixth-straight game. It's his longest stretch of consecutive contests with 10+ points (6) since doing so 10 times between January 27th and March 2nd in 2024 at Arizona.
• He scored 20+ points and grabbed 10+ rebounds for the second time this year and the first time since a 25-point, 13-rebound effort at Penn State (Jan. 5). It was his second-straight game with 15 and 15,
• Ballo recorded his 40th career double-double and his sixth of the season. He's had at least 10 points and 10 rebounds in five of the last six contests. He is one of six active NCAA division one players with at least 40-career double-doubles.
• Over the last six games, Ballo is averaging 18.7 points per game and 12.7 points per game. He's scored in double figures in seven of eight conference games.
• Senior forward Luke Goode dropped a career high 23 points in the win over Ohio State. He connected on four 3-point field goals. He also chipped in three rebounds and played 41 of the possible 45 minutes.
• He has scored in double figures in four of the last five games. Since entering the starting lineup on Dec. 29, he's averaging 12.0 points per game. In that same stretch, he's connected on 17 3-point field goals.
• The Fort Wayne, Ind. native dropped the first 20-point game of his career. Before tonight, his previous career high was 18 points against Sam Houston on Dec. 3, 2024.
• Goode opened the second half a perfect 3-for-3 from the field and 2-for-2 from the free throw line. He scored 11 points out of the halftime break before missing a shot.
• Sophomore guard Kanaan Carlyle provided his best run of play since the new year, chipping in 13 points, four rebounds and one assist. He played 36 minutes off the bench.
• It was his third 10-point effort of the season and first since scoring 14 points against Minnesota on Dec. 9, 2024.
• Redshirt sophomore guard Myles Rice dealt with foul trouble the whole game but scored four points and played valuable overtime minutes.
• Fifth-year senior guard Trey Galloway came off the bench for the first time since a clash against Gonzaga on Nov. 28, 2024. He provided seven points, six assists and five rebounds.
• Sophomore forward Mackenzie Mgbako recorded six points and two rebounds.
• Fifth-year senior guard Anthony Leal got his first start since Feb. 8, 2022 at Northwestern. He had three rebounds and made the crucial defensive stop on the final possession.
• Senior center Langdon Hatton scored three points and grabbed two rebounds.
• Up Next: IU continues its mini road trip with a visit to Evanston and Welsh-Ryan Arena next Tuesday (Jan. 22). IU will meet Northwestern at 7:00 p.m. on the Big Ten Network.
