Indiana vs. Rutgers
Jan. 2, 2025
• The (RV/-) Indiana Men's Basketball team (11-3, 1-1 B1G) picked up its first win of the calendar year, beating Rutgers, 84-74, on Thursday (Jan. 2) evening at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall.
• It's the second-straight year that the Hoosiers have started 9-0 at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall. The last time they started 10-0 or better at home was 2021-22 (12-0). A home game with USC next Wednesday (Jan. 8) will give IU a chance to reach the mark.
• The Hoosiers knocked down seven 3-point field goals in the first half – including a fadeaway, bank shot from Anthony Leal as the horn sounded. IU shot 46.7% from beyond the arc in the opening 20 minutes. On the night, the Hoosiers hit from beyond the arc on 12 occasions.
• It was the first time that IU made 10-or-more 3-point baskets in a Big Ten game since Jan. 28, 2023 vs. Ohio State (10). The 12 made 3-point field goals are the most in a conference regular season contest since connecting on 14 at Iowa on Feb. 17, 2018.
• Three different Hoosiers hit at least three 3-point field goals (Goode – 3, Mgbako – 3, Galloway – 3) for the first time since Nov. 11, 2016 in a win over Kansas (Blackmon Jr. – 4, Anunoby – 3, Jones – 3).
• The Hoosiers grabbed 48 rebounds on the glass in the win over Rutgers. It was the most in any game since picking up 54 against Merrimack on Dec. 12, 2021. It's the most in a Big Ten game since grabbing 50 at Northwestern on Feb. 20, 2021 in a contest that went double overtime.
• IU had just one turnover in the opening half. On the game, the home team turned it over just eight times. It's the fewest number of giveaways since a win over Ohio State last year (Jan. 6, 2024).
• It was the first time that IU connected on 10+ 3-point field goals (10) and turned the ball over fewer than 10 times (9) in the same contest since a win over Ohio State on Jan. 28, 2023.
• Sixth-year senior center Oumar Ballo made his return to the lineup on Thursday with 17 points and 12 rebounds. He also three blocks for the fourth time this season.
• It was the seventh time this season he scored in double figures and the first time doing so while coming off the bench. In fact, it was the first reserve appearance for Ballo since coming off the bench in Arizona's Sweet 16 game vs. Houston on March 24, 2022.
• He recorded the 36th career double-double of his career and second with the Hoosiers. In total, he's had six games with 10+ rebounds on the year.
• Redshirt sophomore guard Myles Rice led the way offensively for the Hoosiers with 21 points. He had five rebounds and three assists and connected on all eight of his free throw attempts.
