• The (RV/-) Indiana Men's Basketball team (12-3, 3-1 B1G) picked up its first road win of the season, beating Penn State, 77-71, on Sunday (Jan. 5) afternoon at The Palestra in Philadelphia.
• With the win, IU improves to 3-1 in the Big Ten. The start to the conference slate marks back-to-back years beginning the Big Ten season with three wins through the first four games. The Hoosiers also picked up their first true road win against Penn State since Dec. 4, 2018
• The Hoosiers grabbed 20 rebounds in the first half and 39 in total on the evening. IU out-rebounded the Nittany Lions 39-33. It had an advantage in second chance points (17-10) as well.
• IU hit nine 3-point field goals in the win over Penn State. It's the first run of three-straight Big Ten games with at least eight made 3-point field goals since Dec. 7, 2022 - Jan. 8, 2023 (vs. Nebraska – 11, at Iowa – 8, vs. Northwestern – 9).
• The Hoosiers opened the second half on an 12-0 run. Sophomore forward Mackenzie Mgbako scored the first eight points of the half and forced Penn State into its first timeout after a wide open 3-point basket.
• IU took the lead at the 19:42 mark of the second half and never relinquished it. Penn State got the deficit to four but never closed it further. On the night, IU led for over 25 minutes.
• Mgbako provided 20 points on 7-for-13 shooting and matched a career high with four makes from beyond the arc. He also grabbed four rebounds and two assists. It was the sixth 20-point game of his career.
• Sixth-year senior center Oumar Ballo scored 14 of his team high 25 points in the first half. It was his second 25+ point game of the season. His tally on Sunday afternoon matched season best and was just five points of matching his career high.
• He also recorded a game high 13 rebounds, passing 1,000 for his career. He's the fifth active player in NCAA Division I to surpass 1,400 career points and 1,000 career rebounds.
• It was the eighth time this season he scored in double figures and third time in Big Ten play. It was the fifth game of his career with 20+ points and 10+ rebounds and the first since Feb. 1, 2024 (vs. California).
• He recorded the 37th career double-double of his career and third with the Hoosiers. It is the first time he had back-to-back double-doubles since March 15, 2024 (Oregon) and March 21, 2024 (Long Beach State).
• IU had two 20-point scorers in the same game (Ballo – 25, Mgbako – 20) for the first time since a win over Providence on November 29th (Reneau – 21, Mgbako – 25).
• Redshirt sophomore guard Myles Rice provided nine points including a perfect 4-for-4 from the free throw line. He added four assists, three rebounds and two steals.
• Fifth-year senior guard Trey Galloway scored eight points and dished out a team high six assists. He played a team best 34 minutes for the Hoosiers.
• Senior forward Luke Goode reached double-figure scoring for the second time this season with 12 points in the win. He connected on three 3-point field goals for the fourth time this year. He also grabbed seven rebounds.
• Fifth-year senior guard Anthony Leal scored one point but played an important 17 minutes off the bench for the Hoosiers.
• Freshman forward Bryson Tucker scored two points and recorded three rebounds.
• Sophomore guard Kanaan Carlyle played eight minutes off the bench.
• Senior center Langdon Hatton played eight minutes and grabbed two rebounds.
• Up Next: IU returns home to Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall on Wednesday (Jan. 8), looking to extend its perfect home start to the season. The Hoosiers will host USC with a tip of 7:00 p.m. on Big Ten Network.
