Feb. 11, 2025
• The Indiana Men's Basketball team (15-10, 6-8 B1G) picked up a big win on Tuesday (Feb. 11) evening, beating #11/11 Michigan State 71-67 at the Breslin Center in East Lansing.
• Michigan State opened the first half with a 20-8 advantage. The visitors quickly widdled the lead down to just one, rattling off a 20-9 run into the under-4 timeout of the opening frame.
• IU took its first lead of the night on a pair of free throws in the first half by Oumar Ballo. IU used a 9-0 run over the final 3:57 in the opening frame to a take a three-point lead into the break. The Hoosiers held the Spartans to just 32.3% shooting from the floor and 16.7% from beyond the arc in the first half.
• This was IU's first win at Michigan State since a 79-76 overtime victory on Feb. 2, 2019. It was the Spartans' first home defeat at the Breslin Center since Feb. 25, 2024 vs. Ohio State.
• IU's win on Tuesday night was the fifth AP top-15 win under head coach Mike Woodson. It was IU's first road win over an AP top-15 opponent since beating No. 5 Purdue at Mackey Arena on Feb. 25, 2023.
• Michigan State shot just 38.2% from the floor on the night. It was the first time this season that Michigan State shot under 40.0% from the floor at home.
• The Hoosiers committed just nine turnovers on Tuesday evening. It is the first time IU has had back-to-back games with fewer than 10 turnovers since Dec. 29, 2025 (Winthrop – 8) and Jan. 2, 2025 (Rutgers – 8).
• Sixth-year senior center Oumar Ballo provided 14 points on 6-for-8 shooting from the floor. He grabbed 10 rebounds and dished out two assists before fouling out.
• The veteran center recorded his 16th double-digit scoring effort of the season. After a pair of off nights offensively against Wisconsin (Feb. 4) and Michigan (Feb. 8), Ballo responded with an important 14 points in the win.
• He recorded his team best eighth double-double of the season. It was his first since Jan. 26, 2025 (Maryland). For his career, he has 42 double-doubles.
• Junior forward Malik Reneau had his best game since returning from injury in January. He scored 19 points, 16 of them in the second half, and grabbed 12 rebounds.
• The Miami, Fla. native scored in double figures in back-to-back games for the first time in conference play. It last happened this season on Dec. 21 (Chattanooga) and Dec. 29 (Winthrop).
• Reneau recorded his second double-double of the season and the fourth of his career. It was his first time doing so since Dec. 3, 2024 (Sam Houston). It was his first Big Ten double-double since Feb. 6, 2024 (Ohio State).
• For the first time this season, two separate IU players (Ballo, Reneau) had double-doubles in the same game. It last happened at the end of the 2023-24 season against Minnesota (March 6, 2024 - Ware, Galloway).
• This was the 28th time in his career, and the ninth this campaign, Reneau's reached the 15-point plateau. IU is now 19-9 in career games where Reneau scores at least 15 points.
• He was prolific across 16 second half minutes. He shot 7-for-11 from the floor after the break, scoring 16 points after the break. He also grabbed four rebounds in the second 20 minutes.
• Senior forward Luke Goode returned to the starting lineup for the first time since Jan. 22, 2025 (Northwestern). He scored 10 points and grabbed three rebounds.
• Goode scored in double figures in the fifth-consecutive road game. It was his ninth 10+ point effort on the season. In true road games this calendar year, Goode is averaging 12.3 points per game.
• Redshirt sophomore guard Myles Rice recorded 10 points and two rebounds. He played 36 minutes and was +10 when he was on the floor.
• Rice came off the bench for the first time this season. He scored in double figures for the 15th time on the campaign and the fourth time in the past seven games.
• Fifth-year senior guard Anthony Leal buried two important free throws late in the game. He also had three assists.
• Sophomore forward Mackenzie Mgbako scored seven points and recorded two rebounds.
• Fifth-year senior guard Trey Galloway added six points and one assist.
• Freshman forward Bryson Tucker scored three points in seven minutes off the bench.
• Up Next: IU returns to Bloomington to begin a three-game homestand on Friday (Feb. 14) evening against UCLA at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall. The Hoosiers will tip against the Bruins at 8:00 p.m. on FOX in front of a national audience.
