Indiana Track and Field Finish Strong day in Alex Wilson Invitational

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Indiana track and field concluded the indoor regular season with a productive Alex Wilson Invitational at the Loftus Center on Saturday (February 22) with three event wins and many personal bests on the day.
"The throws group did well this weekend," said assistant coach Megan Tomei. "Makayla (Hunter) started us off with an event win. Accomplishing what we were looking for going into the Big Ten meet. Dane (Sebert) and Seth (Brosseau) both hit PR's, accomplishing great success for freshman. Men's weight went one and two with Hunter (also hitting a PR) and Tyler. Drastic changes were made from the years past, and the results show.
"I expect my athletes to adopt a policy of kaizen. The improvements they make may look different from week to week but nonetheless are improvements."
The day started in the field, where Indiana would take the women's shot put title to start the day. Makayla Hunter's mark of 17.08m/56–0 won the women's shot put with ease.
On the men's side, Seth Brosseau (18.04m/59-2.25 PR) and Dane Sebert (17.16m/56-3.75 PR) showed out to finish first and third, respectively.
On the track, the Hoosiers finished fifth in both the men's and women's distance medley relays, running times of 9:23.69 in the men's and 11:04.64 in the women's.
Indiana claimed runner-up laurels in the men's and women's 60-meter hurdles. Tyler Tarter finished with a time of 8.18, while Olivia Gee sprinted a time of 8.69.
After advancing to the finals, Lyric Steele (7.70) sprinted to second place in the women's 60-meter dash.
Jania Hodges ran a new personal best (55.32) in the women's 400 meter to finish in the runner-up spot.
In the pole vault, Tyler Carrel earned another win for the Hoosiers with a mark of 5.38m/17-7.75.
Taylor Fox (2:10.62) and Maddie Russin (2:10.98) each ran season bests in the women's 800 meter to finish fourth and fifth, respectively.
Christian Woodson finished second in the men's 200 meter as the lone Hoosier in the event.
The day finished with a win in the men's weight throw. Hunter Smith (19.85m/65-1.5) set a new personal best to win the event, while Tyler Reyna (18.68m/61-3.5) followed in second.
