• Indiana University continues Big Ten Conference play in its 125th season of competition in men's basketball with a two-game Pacific Northwest road swing. Game one of the trip features the debut Big Ten clash between the Hoosiers and Washington Huskies at 6 p.m. ET on Saturday, March 1, at Alaska Airlines Arena in Seattle. The game will be streamed on Peacock with Noah Reed (pxp) and Eldridge Recasner (analyst) on the call.
• The Huskies enter the game with a record of 13-15 (4-13 Big Ten) under first-year head coach Danny Sprinkle. Washington is led by 14.9 points, 8.4 rebounds, 3.4 assists, and 1.9 steals per game from senior forward Great Osobor. He is the first Hoosier to achieve the feat since Kevin "Yogi' Ferrell handed out 100-plus assists in four-straight seasons (2012-16). Current Team and Recruiting Coordinator Jordan Hulls added back-to-back 100-plus assist seasons from 2011-12.
• The Culver Academies alum has handed out at least five helpers in 37 career games and at least eight dimes in eight contests. The Hoosiers hold a record of 7-1 in those games.
• Galloway posted 15 points, nine assists, four rebounds, and just two turnovers against No. 13/14 Purdue (Feb. 23). He is one of eight players to post that stat line or better against a ranked opponent this season.
• He ranks second to Ferrell (137) in career games played (136) on the all-time Indiana leaderboard. Gallo is eighth in career assists (407), and 59th in career points scored (965).
• Galloway is one of two active Big Ten players (Braden Smith, Purdue) to have collected 950 points, 400 assists, 300 rebounds, and 100 steals in their careers.
Big Fella Ballo
• Sixth-year senior center Oumar Ballo has averaged 13.7 points, 9.4 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and 1.4 blocks per contest and has shot 63.8% (141-of-221) from the floor. He is one of four major conference Division I men's basketball players (Johni Broome, Auburn; Hunter Dickinson, Kansas; Julian Reese, Maryland) to average 13.0 points, 9.0 rebounds, and 1.2 blocked shots per night, and the only player to post those numbers on 60.0% shooting or better.
• Ballo is one of five active players to score 1,600 career points and grab 1,100 career rebounds. He joins Johni Broome (Auburn), Norchad Omier (Baylor), Hunter Dickinson (Kansas), and Nelly Junior Joseph (New Mexico) on the exclusive list.
• He recorded his 43rd career double-double (20 points, 12 rebounds) against Penn State (Feb. 16). Ballo has posted eight double-doubles across his last 15 contests. During that stretch, he has averaged 14.7 points and 9.5 rebounds.
• The 7-footer is second among Big Ten players (Danny Wolf, Michigan) and ranks 22nd nationally in boards per game. Ballo has strung together 13 games with double-digit boards, including a season-high 18 against Miami (Ohio) on Dec. 6.
Going the Extra Myles
• Redshirt sophomore guard Myles Rice has averaged 10.9 points, 2.9 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 1.1 steals per game and has shot 83.5% (71-of-85) from the free throw line this season.
• Rice is one of five B1G players (Kylan Boswell, Illinois; Brice Williams, Nebraska; Bruce Thornton, Ohio State; Ace Baldwin Jr., Penn State) to produce at least 300 points, 75 rebounds, 75 assists, and 30 steals while shooting at least 80.0% from the free throw line this season.
• The Washington State transfer was diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma on Sept. 12, 2022. After undergoing chemotherapy for five hours a session twice a month for six months, Rice learned his cancer was in remission on June 1, 2023.
Huge Second Half Lifts Indiana Over Purdue
• Indiana topped archrival and No. 13/14 Purdue by a score of 73-58 on Sunday, Feb. 23, at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall behind a dominant effort in the paint. IU outscored the visitors by a margin of 44-18 in the lane and shot 68.6% (24-of-35) from inside the 3-point line.
• Five Hoosiers reached double figures in the scoring column led by 15 points each from junior forward Malik Reneau and redshirt senior guard Trey Galloway. Sixth-year senior center Oumar Ballo and redshirt sophomore guard Myles Rice each added 12 points while senior forward Luke Goode tallied 11.
• Indiana trailed 37-25 at the halftime break but flipped the script to outscore the visitors by a tally of 48-21 in the second half. IU seized control of the game in the opening 10 minutes of the second stanza with a 28-3 extended run.
