On establishing chemistry with a new punter…
ML: The objective of spring was to get us all thinking alike, and knowing where our problems are, knowing where to step. And I think for this spring we did a good job of that so we can keep building off that for the summer.
On the physicality of the position…
ML: I try to be the one to deliver the blow. For most of the time, but for the most of the time it's kind of inevitable to get caught up like a pinball going through coverage. Just keep moving forward.
On becoming a long snapper…
ML: In high school I was heavy defense, I played a little bit in high school. I just went off to the side and snapping to a field goal post and I eventually got really good at it and had an opportunity to play at Kennesaw State and just took off from there. I had a really good guy ahead of me who took me under his wing and really taught me everything. Along with another guy who used to snap for the Falcons who is with the Chargers now who molded me into who I am.
Mitch McCarthy | Sr. | P
On how Indiana got on his radar when he was in the portal…
MM: Besides the fact that they were having a very good year and that stood out to me, there was a connection through ProKick Australia. James Evans was there and I had our guys me message towards the end of the season. We (UCF) didn't get a Bowl Game so I started that pretty early, that's kind of how it started. And I was a basketballer before I was a footballer, so I definitely knew about the Hoosiers, so it was very exciting.
On if he knew James Evans…
MM: We had each other on socials, but didn't know him personally. The first time I met him was on a visit so he's a good kid, and he's kind of helped me introduce me to the program and what's ok and what's not.
On how ProKick prepares college punters…
MM: If I'm being honest, ProKick runs a very unique program down there. Some days they throw some stuff at you that you think 'I'm never going to need this' but it does, it does prepare you. Where I'm from Melbourne, very windy, cold. So, especially for Indiana, if you're going anywhere cold, ProKick Melbourne is a very good start. They've sent so many people over, they know what it takes to be successful, holding, kicking. Nathan Chapman is a very good coach of that stuff, so it was good.
Nicolas Radicic | R-So. | K
On building trust with the coaching staff for deep field goal attempts…
NR: I had surgery last year in January, so it was really hard coming back. I wanted to just work on getting consistent inside of that 45, but to get back to your question, I've got to put up games like the Michigan game. Earn their trust at short field, so when it comes to hitting a big kick, they know I have the confidence to make it.
On his injury timeline…
NR: I suffered that injury the same summer I came here (2023).
On building consistency…
NR: It's the mental aspect. I tell everyone that kicking is 70% mental, you can be the strongest guy on the field, the strongest leg, the biggest leg if you don't have it in the six inches between your ears, you won't be able to make kicks.
