ROSEMONT, Ill. – The Indiana Baseball team, after finishing the regular season with a 31-23 (16-14 B1G) record, will be the No. 6 seed in next week's Big Ten Tournament. As has been the case since 2018, the entirety of the tournament will be played at Charles Schwab Field in Omaha, Nebraska.
IU finished the regular season tied for sixth in the Big Ten standings with Michigan but earned the tie-breaker after winning the final series of the season against the Wolverines. Three teams finished in a three-way tie at 15-15 in a Big Ten campaign filled with a lot of parity. Oregon won a share of the regular season title and the No. 1 seed.
With the expansion to 17 teams in the league, the Big Ten Tournament takes on a new format in 2025. There will be four pools of three teams, seeded in descending order. Each team is guaranteed two contests, all played within each pool. The four group winners advance to Saturday's (May 24) semifinals. The championship will be played on Sunday (May 25).
The Hoosiers open their journey in Omaha on Tuesday (May 20) afternoon against No. 10-seeded Rutgers. The Scarlet Knights were one of three teams in a tie for eighth place but lost a tie-breaker to both Nebraska (No. 8) and Penn State (No. 9). IU and Rutgers didn't play in the regular season.
IU's other guaranteed game in the Big Ten Tournament is against No. 3-seeded Iowa on Friday (May 23) afternoon at 2:00 p.m. CT. The Hawkeyes had a commanding lead in the league after sweeping IU to end April but lost five of their last six conference games to finish in third.
If IU was to win its first two games, it would advance to Saturday's semifinals as the winner of Pool C. That group is paired with Pool B in a Saturday night contest at 6:00 p.m. CT for a bid to the Big Ten Tournament Championship game on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. CT.
