BLOOMINGTON, Ind. –––– As Indiana Football's Week 4 matchup versus No. 9/8 Illinois on Saturday (September 20) approaches, seniors Mikail Kamara and Kellan Wyatt addressed the media inside the Don Croftcheck Football Team Room.
Below is a partial transcript of the press conference, while video of the media sessions can be found on the right sidebar at IUHoosiers.com.
Mikail Kamara | DL | R-Sr.
On how he would review the defensive line's performance in the first three games…
MK: I think it's been good. We've improved every single game, right? Going into (Old Dominion) ODU, going to Kennesaw (State), and then going into Indiana State. We mentally prepared better every single week with film study and knowing our assignments and cleaning up all the (missed assignments). As far as technique-wise, I think we've studied the film and we're cleaning up all of our little things, whether it's striking, whether it's pad level, whether it's pass rushing. I'm excited for us to put it all together on Saturday.
On how he expects this ranked matchup to be in the home environment…
MK: It's fun, for sure. I think it's going to be our stadium rocking versus theirs, so I think it's fun. I think the fans are going to enjoy it, and I think we just got to go out there and attack it. It's (not) only a big game just because it's the next game, that's the mentality going to the show.
On what his excitement level is like for getting to play a night prime time game on national TV, …
MK: Oh, that's fun. That's like something you dream about as a kid, right? Playing on Saturday, Saturday night, the lights are on, the weather is beautiful, especially at home too. It's a dream, for sure. We just have to go out there and dominate so he can enjoy it on Sunday.
On facing a veteran quarterback…
KW: I've seen him, two years ago at my old school. He's pretty experienced, he's seen a lot of ball. I'm sure their team is confident in what he does. He likes to do things that trick defenses, it's all about staying keyed in.
On keeping his mindset on the next game…
KW: I think it starts at the top with Cig (Cignetti). Coach Cig puts a lot of pressure on us through the week. When he stresses us out through practice, I think when it comes to Saturday, it's pretty easy.
Defensive line improvement…
KW: First week, we came out not bad, not horrible. We wanted to progress that as weeks went on. Week 2 and Week 3, our front-seven turned it on. We had a lot of production in the back field. The coaches do a good job of pulling it in on what they want and what they want is for us to not give them anything. They do a good job of that. It starts in practice with everything, every little detail, how we stretch, how we punt.
