BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The MLB Postseason Wild Card round gets underway on Tuesday (Sept. 30) afternoon as eight sides vie for spots in the divisional series next week. Among those set to play in the Wild Card series includes former Indiana pitcher Tim Herrin (Guardians). Designated hitter Kyle Schwarber will have the week off after the Phillies clinched a bye in the National League.
IU players have been no stranger to playing in the postseason after their time in Bloomington. Schwarber is making his sixth-consecutive appearance in the playoffs and his 10th in 11 career seasons in the big leagues. To date, the veteran lefty owns 21 career postseason home runs. He won the World Series with the Cubs in 2016 and reached the fall classic again in 2022 with the Phillies.
Tim Herrin is back in the postseason after Cleveland's incredible comeback to claim the AL Central crown. He pitched in 54 games for the Guardians this year after bouncing between Triple-A and the MLB. He threw in nine of Cleveland's 10 postseason games last year – including all five games in the ALDS against Detroit.
One name to keep an eye on is Milwaukee's Craig Yoho. He spent most of the season in Triple-A but is eligible to be selected to the Brewers' postseason roster in the NLDS or further. Former IU pitcher Kyle Hart (Padres) was optioned at the end of the regular season and won't appear on the Wild Card squad for San Diego. All final series rosters must be set and confirmed the morning of the opening contest.
