BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – In its first home match of the season, the Indiana volleyball team (3-0, 0-0 B1G) wasted no time in showcasing its up-tempo offense for the Bloomington faithful. The Hoosiers were a dominant force offensively on Thursday (Sept. 4) evening as they swept SEMO (25-19, 25-18, 25-18) at Wilkinson Hall.
Led by its two outside hitters, freshman Jaidyn Jager and senior Candela Alonso-Corcelles, IU hit .427 (53-9-103) in the victory. Jager had the first 20-kill match by an IU freshman since Tommi Stockham in 2021. She and Alonso-Corcelles combined for 34 kills on 60 swings with just three errors (.517).
Alonso-Corcelles committed zero attacking errors in a match with at least 10 kills for the first time in her collegiate career. On the season, she's averaging 3.91 kills per set at a .386 offensive clip. She recorded her 14th career double-double with a team-best 12 digs.
Senior opposite Avry Tatum added nine kills while middle blockers Ella Boersema (5) and Victoria Gray (4) added a handful themselves. Freshman setter Teodora Krickovic recorded a career high 46 assists. She matched a single-match record for most assists (46) during a three-set contest in the 25-point rally era (since 2008).
The Hoosiers' 53 kills were the most in program history in a three-set match since the 25-point rally-scoring era began in 2008. IU committed just nine attacking errors. On top of that, IU provided a season-best 52 digs. Boersema had a hand in five of the team's six blocks.
IU is set to make a quick turnaround with two matches tomorrow (Sept. 5) against Northern Kentucky (10 a.m.) and Western Michigan (7 p.m.). Both contests will stream on B1G+ at Wilkinson Hall.
How it Happened
• Despite the best efforts of visiting SEMO, IU's offense was at another level on Thursday night. A massive advantage in kills (53-32) and hitting percentage (.427-.192) ensured an efficient sweep in the home opener. It was IU's first match with fewer than 10 attacking errors since a big sweep of Michigan on Oct. 14, 2023.
• IU managed 52 digs on the night but will admit it wasn't the cleanest defensive effort. Senior outside hitter Candela Alonso-Corcelles had 12 digs while freshman libero Audrey Jackson chipped in 10. Freshman setter Teodora Krickovic finished one dig shy of a double-double. Sophomore middle blocker Ella Boersmea led the way with five blocks.
