ROSEMONT, Ill. – The Big Ten conference office handed out its weekly awards on Monday (Sept. 8) afternoon following a big week of volleyball action. Two Hoosiers were named among the five recipients, marking just the fifth time in program history that IU has grabbed multiple weekly honors in the same release.
Freshman outside Jaidyn Jager (Freshman of the Week) and freshman setter Teodora Krickovic (Setter of the Week) earned Big Ten weekly honors after helping the Hoosiers to a perfect 3-0 weekend. IU swept its home invitational without dropping a set. As a team, IU hit .401 on the weekend across nine sets played.
Jager is the sixth different IU player to be named Big Ten Freshman of the Week since the league began handing out the award in 2009. The Carlsbad, California native headlines a very talented freshman class for head coach Steve Aird. She averaged 4.33 kills per set over the weekend while hitting .368 in three commanding sweeps.
She recorded the first 20-kill match of her career against SEMO last Thursday (Sept. 4) as IU kicked off its home season at Wilkinson Hall. Since 2015, Jager is just one of three IU true freshman players to tally a 20-kill outing. Her .515 hitting percentage in the match (20-3-33) is the highest by an IU freshman since the 25-point rally scoring era began in 2008 (min. 12 kills).
Following the weekend, Jager is tops in the Big Ten among freshmen in kills per set (3.71). She ranks sixth nationally in the same category and second among power four players. During the weekend, she also recorded the first double-double of her career (vs. Northern Kentucky – 12 kills, 12 digs).
IU's freshman setter, Krickovic, helped run the show during a prolific offensive weekend. She averaged 12.56 assists per set in a clean sweep of the Indiana Invitational while helping the team to a hitting percentage of .401 over three contests. Her 46 assists against SEMO (Sept. 4) are joint most by an IU player in a three-set match during the current scoring format (since 2008).
She followed up her home debut against SEMO with 34 assists in a win over Northern Kentucky (Sept. 5) and 33 in a victory against Western Michigan (Sept. 5). Over the weekend, she racked up five kills, five aces, 17 digs and six blocks. Krickovic is just the second player (Camryn Haworth) in program history to be named Big Ten Setter of the Week. She also sits first nationally among true freshmen in assists per set (10.71).
