CLEVELAND, Ohio. ––– Jacob Moran added to the Indiana program's legacy in Session III of the NCAA Wrestling Championships on Friday (March 20), claiming All-American honors and a spot in the 125 lbs. semifinals tonight.
Moran used a second-straight upset to earn his spot in the semifinals. This time, No. 14 Moran defeated No. 6 Jore Volk (Minnesota) in a 5-4 decision to advance.
It was a close match from start to finish. Volk struck first with an early takedown followed by a Moran escape to give Volk the 3-1 lead. In the second period, Volk chose bottom and escaped to make it a 4-1 score.
At the start of the third, Moran started on bottom and got his escape point shortly after to bring the score to 4-2. With about 30 seconds left, Moran picked Volk's ankle and brought him down for the takedown.
He was able to stay on top for the remainder of the match to prevent Volk from escaping and tying the match up.
With the win, Moran became an NCAA All-American for the first time in his career, and it marked back-to-back years that the Hoosiers earned a spot on the podium with DJ Washington taking eighth place at 184 lbs. in 2025.
Moran also became the Hoosiers' first semifinalist since Nate Jackson reached the semifinals at 174 lbs. in the 2016 tournament.
Three Hoosiers competed in the wrestlebacks in Session III, including Gabe Sollars (197), Bryce Lowery (157) and Tyler Lillard (165).
No. 14 Sollars (197) had a dominant first match of the day when he defeated No. 13 Bennett Berge (South Dakota State) by tech fall, 18-3 (5:40). He lost a narrow battle to No. 27 Gabe Arnold (Iowa) in a 5-4 decision in the third round of consolations to end his tournament.
Lowery (157) and Lillard (165) each lost in the second round of consolations to finish their 2026 NCAA Tournaments with a 1-2 mark.
Moran will wrestle his semifinal match against No. 10 Marc-Anthony McGowan (Princeton) tonight in Session IV, which will begin at 8 p.m.
