No. 60 Indiana Men's Tennis Sets Sights on Rival Purdue

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — It's rivalry weekend in Bloomington for the No. 60 Indiana men's tennis team as it prepares to host the Purdue Boilermakers on Saturday, Mar. 28, at 3 p.m. at the IU Tennis Center.
Indiana rose to No. 60 in the ITA rankings after splitting last weekend's home Big Ten matches 1-1, improving its record to 8-7 on the season. Indiana lost 4-1 on Saturday to No. 5 Ohio State. Still, the Hoosiers were able to secure the doubles point with Indiana's No. 62-ranked duo of Michael Andre and Matteo Antonescu taking down the No. 1 doubles team in the nation of Brandon Carpico and Nikita Flinn. On Sunday against Penn State, the Hoosiers cruised to a 4-1 victory after securing the doubles point as well as winning at No. 1, No. 3, and No. 4 singles. Sam Landau at No. 1 singles improved to 4-2 on the season; Michael Andre improved to 4-1 at No. 3 singles, and Braeden Gellitich improved to 7-6 on the season in dual matches after securing a victory at No. 4 singles.
For Purdue, the Boilermakers enter the match with a 4-11 record, and the team is looking to secure its first Big Ten victory of the season after starting the season 0-6 in conference play. The Boilermakers do not have any players ranked in singles or doubles in the most recent ITA rankings.
Against common opponents this season, Purdue also lost to Ohio State 4-0 twice this season, alongside suffering losses to Penn State (6-1), No. 45 Oregon (4-2), Washington (4-3), No. 26 UCLA (6-1), and No. 22 USC (6-1). The Hoosiers beat both Penn State (4-1) and Washington (4-3), while also suffering losses to No. 45 Oregon (4-3), No. 22 USC (4-3), No. 5 Ohio State (4-1), and No. 26 UCLA (4-2).
