BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – For the second time this week, the Indiana Baseball team (11-19, 4-10 B1G) watched a late lead slip away in the seventh inning or later. IU allowed eight unanswered runs between the sixth and ninth innings as Rutgers (16-14, 5-6 B1G) stormed back for a 9-6 win on Saturday (April 4) evening at Bart Kaufman Field.

Graduate student right-handed pitcher Gavin Seebold (L, 1-3), who has been so good with the lead this year, didn't have his best stuff on Saturday. A leadoff home run in the eighth was followed by an infield single to third base. From there it ballooned as Rutgers shortstop Yomar Carreras tagged the Hoosiers for five RBIs in the final two innings. The loss spoiled a fantastic six-inning quality start from graduate student right-handed pitcher Reagan Rivera.

A career day from sophomore outfielder Caleb Koskie helped spark an early offensive burst. He hit a two-run home run in the first inning and provided a two-run double in the fifth inning as IU jumped out to an early 5-1 lead. The Hoosiers had a chance to blow the game open but couldn't find a big hit with runners in scoring position in the next two frames. Sophomore first baseman Jake Hanley hit a solo home run – his eighth of the year – in the ninth inning.

The Hoosiers got six RBIs from batters three through five in the order but got little offensive production from anywhere else. Freshman second baseman Landen Fry had another multi-hit game, his ninth of the season. Koskie's four hits were a career high for the young outfielder.

IU will still have a chance to win the series tomorrow (April 5) as sophomore southpaw Brayton Thomas hits the mound for his eighth start of the year. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m. on B1G+.

• Sophomore outfielder Caleb Koskie supplied a career high four hits in the Saturday defeat. He's the fifth member of the sophomore class (Malamazian, Moore, Hanley, Denny) with a four-hit game during their time in Bloomington. In the process, he extended his hitting streak to 11-straight games.

• Graduate student right-handed pitcher Reagan Rivera turned in his first quality start of the season. Between him and graduate student left-handed pitcher Tony Neubeck (Friday), IU recorded consecutive quality starts for the first time since a series at Maryland (April 5-6, 2024) two years ago.
