Indiana Falls to No. 26 UCLA, 4-2, in Big Ten Opener

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. ––– The Indiana men's tennis team came up short in its first Big Ten match of the season against the No. 26-ranked UCLA Bruins, 4-2, today at home in the IU Tennis Center.
Indiana began the day strong, with Braeden Gelletich and Facundo Yunis cruising to a 6-2 win over UCLA's Rudy Quan and Bengt Reinhard at No. 3 doubles, while the No. 57-ranked duo of Michael Andre and Matteo Antonescu clinched the doubles point with a 6-4 win over Emon van Loben Sels and Gianluca Ballotta. At No. 1 doubles, Indiana's No. 33-ranked duo of Sam Landau and Jip van Assendelft left their match unfinished at 6-6.
In singles, Aidan Atwood took home a 6-4, 6-4 win in straight sets over Bengt Reinhard. After losing the first set 3-6, Sam Landau battled back and won a hard-fought second set 7-6, with a tight 9-7 tiebreaker. The match was unfinished at 1-1 in the third set. UCLA gained its four points with wins at No. 2, 3, 4, and 5 singles.
Indiana won't have to wait long for their next match, as the Hoosiers will turn their attention to the No. 22 USC Trojans this Sunday at the IU Tennis Center.
