Jacob Moran Earns Spot in Semifinals & Nine Hoosiers Alive Through Session I

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. –––– No. 4 Seed Jacob Moran (125) led the way for Indiana in Session I of the Big Ten Championships on Saturday (March 7) at the Bryce Jordan Center.
Moran won his first two matches of the day, both by tech fall, to claim a spot in the semifinals and clinch his bid to the 2026 NCAA Championships.
He defeated No. 13 Seed Ashton Jackson (Purdue), 17-2 (3:53) to advance to the quarterfinals before topping No. 12 Seed Nick Corday (Michigan State), 20-3 (5:18).
No. 8 Seed Gabe Sollars (197) also reached the quarterfinal, defeating No. 9 Seed Ben Vanadia (Purdue) by injury default. He lost to No. 1 Seed Josh Barr (Penn State) and moved to the wrestlebacks.
In the consolation brackets, No. 12 Seed Blaine Frazier (133) controlled the pace and had a long ride in the second period to take control against No. 13 Seed Gauge Botero (Michigan) in a 10-4 decision. Not long after, No. 11 Seed Bryce Lowery (157) scored a first period takedown on No. 14 Seed Ty Wilson (Northwestern) and held on for a 4-1 decision.
After losing his first match due to injury default, No. 6 Seed Derek Gilcher (174) responded well against No. 14 Seed Seth Digby (Maryland), winning in a 4-2 decision.
No. 14 Seed Caleb Marzolino (285) put an exclamation point on the end of the session for the Hoosiers as he pinned No. 11 Seed Hayden Filipovich (Purdue) in 29 seconds. Filipovich came at him with heavy pressure at the edge of the mat before Marzolino brought him down to the mat flat on his back to pin him.
No. 11 Seed Joey Buttler (149) narrowly lost his consolation match in a 9-8 Sudden Victory match. He will move to the extra ninth place bracket as there are nine NCAA bids available at 149 lbs. for the Big Ten.
With Sollars' loss in the quarterfinals, he automatically ends up in the second round of consolations for tonight in Session II.
No. 9 Seed Henry Porter (141), No. 9 Seed Tyler Lillard (165) and No. 9 Seed Sam Goin (184) all got a bye on the backside and automatically advanced to the second round of consolation matches.
Through Session I, the Hoosiers are currently tied for ninth place with Rutgers as each team has 18.0 team points. Session II will begin at 5 p.m. with more consolation matches before beginning the semifinals at 7 p.m.
Moran will face off against No. 1 Seed Luke Lilledahl (Penn State) in the semifinals while the other Hoosiers alive will continue on in their consolation action.
