Heating Up in Conference Play
4/10/2026 11:00:00 PM | Baseball
IU's offense has started to head in the right direction over the last few weeks. A massive sixth inning, that featured three of its five home runs in the game, helped break the contest open in the right direction. Sophomore outfielder Caleb Koskie smashed a two-strike, two-out, three-run home run to give IU an 8-1 lead. Redshirt freshman designated hitter Brayden Ricketts followed that with a solo shot to put the game on ice.
Graduate student left-handed pitcher Tony Neubeck continues to get the team off to a great start in weekend openers. He spun a six-inning, one-run gem to earn his fourth victory of the year. It was his fourth quality start in six starts during conference play. Neubeck has 39 strikeouts to just nine walks in Big Ten action this season.
Late runs in the ninth inning allowed graduate student right-handed pitcher Gavin Seebold to get the final seven outs of the game with little trouble. He returned to his fantastic form with three strikeouts amidst a hitless performance on the mound.
IU will have a chance to win the series on Saturday (April 11) afternoon in College Park. Graduate student right-handed pitcher Reagan Rivera will take the mound for the Hoosiers. Head coach Jeff Mercer will hope his offense continues to swing hot bats in conference play. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.

Notes to Know
• Sophomore outfielder Caleb Koskie slugged a three-run home run to blow things open in the sixth inning. That extended his hitting streak to 14-straight games, the longest in a single year by an IU player since 2022 (15 – Josh Pyne). It was his four-straight contest with multiple RBIs.
• Graduate student left-handed Tony Pitcher turned in his fourth quality start in six Big Ten starts with another brilliant performance against Maryland. He recorded five strikeouts and gave up just two walks. He's had at least five strikeouts in six of his last seven outings.
• IU's offense smashed five home runs in the commanding Friday victory. It's the 12th time in the head coach Jeff Mercer era that IU has hit at least five long balls in one game. It's the third time that the Hoosiers have done it in a game against Maryland (9 – March 30, 2019 and 5 – April 20, 2025).
• The Hoosiers scored in double digits for the sixth time this season and the 107th time in the Mercer era. In that stretch, IU is 97-10 when putting at least 10 runs on the board. In Friday conference games this year, IU is 4-2 with two losses by just one run each.
