Indiana Defeats Purdue in Series Opener on Friday Night

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. ––– Indiana used a collective effort of strong pitching and capitalizing at the plate to take a 4-1 Friday (April 10) win over Purdue at Andy Mohr Field in game one of the weekend series.
Indiana is now 29-10 for the season and 8-5 in Big Ten play.
GAME 1: INDIANA 4, PURDUE 1
Indiana leads the series 1-0.
KEY MOMENTS
• Troutt and company made a strong start against the Boilermakers, only allowing one on base and maintaining a scoreless in the top of the first.
• The Hoosiers followed that up with a 1-2-3 inning in the top of the second to keep the score at 0-0.
• Ellie Goins powered a home run over the left field fence to put the Hoosiers on the board, 1-0 in the bottom of the second.
• Anna Moore singled to right field and advanced on an error to reach third before a Purdue single brought Moore home to tie the game at 1-1 in the top of the fourth.
• Aly VanBrandt sent a ball deep over the right field wall for a solo home run in the bottom of the fifth inning to put Indiana back in front, 2-1.
• Taylor Hess stepped into the circle at the top of the sixth inning for the Hoosiers and kept the scoresheet clean while only allowing one hit and striking out two.
• Freshman Josie White hit a ball over the shortstop's head to bring home Madalyn Strader and Brooke Mannon and extend IU's lead to 4-1 in the bottom of the sixth.
• A combination of Hess and Troutt in the circle retired the first three Boilermakers that stepped up to the plate in the top of the seventh inning to secure the Indiana win.
NOTABLES
• Aly VanBrandt's notched her 11th home run of the season, putting her in a tie for the most on the team this season with Avery Parker. The homer improved VanBrandt's season RBI total to 45.
• Ellie Goins home run accounts for her sixth of the 2026 campaign.
• Troutt improved her season record to 8-6.
