Hoosiers Qualify Three to Open B1G Championship

LINCOLN, Neb. – The Indiana University track and field team closed a hot and windy first day of the Big Ten Outdoor track and field Championship on Friday, May 15. The Hoosiers saw XX individuals advance to Sunday's track finals, along with seven personal best performances in the multi events.
The multis group started the day with the Max Grangier in the men's decathlon and Elle Knepp and Chayla Rankin in the women's heptathlon.
Grangier currently sits in 10th place with 3,756 points, seeing personal best marks in the long jump (7.02m/23-0.5) and the shot put (12.37m/40-7).
Rankin and Knepp sit in ninth and 10th place, respectively, combining for three personal bests. Rankin saw PRs in the high jump (1.74m/5-8.5) and shot put (9.30m/30-6.25) events. Knepp follows in the standings with a personal best in the high jump crossing a height of 1.53m/5-0.25.
The Hoosiers saw three qualifiers for Sunday's finals after the first day of competition.
John Colquitt was the first to advance, running the fourth fastest qualifying time in the men's 400-meter hurdles.
Trelee Banks-Rose followed with the second fastest qualifying time in the 200-meter sprint, advancing to Sunday's final.
Lily Myers closed the prelim events with the final qualifying time for Sunday's 1,500-meter final.
Claire Overfelt closed the day in the women's 10k race. After weather delays, Overfelt finished ninth with a time of 34:20.38.
The Hoosiers will be back tomorrow morning as the decathlon resumes with the 110-meter hurdles.
