Mathias Breaks Two American Records in Indianapolis

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana swimming and diving director of operations Van Mathias broke his second American record of the week Saturday (June 21) at the TYR Pro Swim Series inside the IU Natatorium in Indianapolis.
After breaking his own American record in the 50-meter event Wednesday, Mathias swam a 58.01 in Saturday's 100-meter breaststroke final to better Michael Andrew's 2021 mark (58.14).
Between Mathias and former IU swimmer Lilly King, Hoosiers own seven American records in breaststroke events.
Mathias was an All-American swimmer at IU from 2018-23 before becoming the program's director of operations ahead of the 2024-25 season. He returned to competitive swimming during the summer of 2025.
