I Association Announces 2026 Awards

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. ––– The I Association presented its 2026 awards over the weekend ahead of the Indiana-Howard football game on Saturday (Sept. 12).
On Friday (Sept. 11), the I Association honored five individuals.
The first award presented was the Zora Clevenger Award. It is presented to living I Men, who as alumni, have made outstanding contributions to Indiana University through service to its athletic program.
Chuck Franz was the first of two honored with the Zora Clevenger Award over the weekend. Franz, a former IU Men's Basketball player from 1980-84 and was a member of the 1981 NCAA Championship team.
The second Clevenger winner was Adewale Ogunleye, an IU football standout from 1995-99. Ogunleye is IU's all-time leader in sacks and tackles for loss prior to enjoying an 11-year NFL career that included a Pro Bowl selection in 2003 with the Miami Dolphins and made a Super Bowl appearance with the Chicago Bears in the 2006 season. Ogunleye was inducted into the IU Athletic Hall of Fame in 2014.
Next, the Leanne Grotke Award was presented, which is bestowed on living female letterwinners for outstanding contributions to IU Athletics after graduation.
This weekend, there were two Grotke Award winners in Mary Beth Godsey, who was part of IU's Track and Field program from 1974-76 and Nancy Martin of Indiana Women's Basketball (1976-77).
Lastly, the Bill Orwig Award capped the weekend's award distribution. That award recognizes outstanding contributions by a non-alumnus to IU Athletics.
This year's Orwig winner was recently retired IU Faculty Athletics Representative Marietta Simpson.
