Zang Runs Away with Women’s Race in Sam Bell Invitational

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The men's and women's cross country teams posted strong starts to the season as each team finished second and first, respectively, at the Sam Bell Invitational on Friday morning.
The men ran the 6K race at the Sam Bell Cross Country Course led by Tony Provenzano in fourth with a time of 18:19.3.
Dominic Ellis (18:23.3), Alex Bruns (18:26.5), and Liam Bauschke (18:28.3) followed taking fifth, sixth, and seventh, respectively.
Ahmed Saleh rounded out the scoring finishes for the Hoosiers with a time of 18:44.3 to finish 12th.
Freshman Katy Zang shined in her first performance as a Hoosier. Her time of 12:36.2 earned first place and also set a Sam Bell 4k course record, finishing nearly a minute ahead of the competition.
Maddie Rocchio (13:46.1) and Lily Myers (13:48.9) each earned third and fourth place finishes, respectively. They were followed by newcomers Jasmine Martoglio (14:01.5; 6th) and Lucinda Rourke (14:05.0; 7th) to round out the top-five finishers for Indiana.

Indiana will train for two weeks before heading to Terre Haute, Ind. for the John McNichols Invitational on Saturday, September 19th.
