2019-20: finished the season with an overall record of 9-22…started for the Hoosiers in all 12 dual matches…finished with a career record of 27-43…beat No. 13 Matthew Waddell 12-7 in dual match at Chattanooga.
2018-19 (Redshirt junior): Finished the season with a 2-7 record and competed in three Big Ten dual matches…won by fall against Ike Murrell of Marian at the Greyhound Open…finished second at the Greyhound Open.
2017-18 (Redshirt Sophomore): Finished the season with an overall record of 7-8 with one TF and one pin…MD against Brian Wagner of Indianapolis in the IU Duals.
2016-17 (Redshirt Freshman – 197 lbs.)
Wrestled 29 matches in his first varsity season, earning 13 wins … five of those wins came with bonus points (2 MD, 3 WBF) … took fifth-place at the Navy Classic … third-place at the Alma Open … entered the dual lineup 15 times and represented the Hoosiers at the Big Ten Championships … a 20-7 major decision over Andrew Thomas (George Mason, 11/17) gave Hinz his first win of the season … wrestled to a fifth-place finish at the Navy Classic (11/19), adding points to the Hoosiers’ team championship … finished the weekend with a 4-2 tournament record, earning a pin in less than a minute … beat Cordell Eaton (North Dakota State) before dropping a tight decision to Jake Tindle (SIU-Edwardsville) at the SIUE Duals (12/4) … made his Big Ten debut against No. 15 Ricky Robertson (Wisconsin, 12/9) … headed to the Alma Open (1/21) and battled to third-place, highlighted by a major decision over James Russell (Michigan State) … entered the Big Ten Tournament (3/4-5) for the first time in his career, opening against No. 4 Kollin Moore … scored a win in the consolation round, an 8-5 decision over Wesley Maskill (Michigan State).
Summer 2016 (Freestyle)
Attended the 2016 ASICS University Nationals at the University of Akron … put together an impressive run to the quarterfinals at 86kg, sparked by an opening-round decision win over Will Sumner (Utah Valley) … won an 11-1 tech fall over Zach Bruce (Pittsburgh) before edging Josh Anthony (UW-Parkside) with a one-point decision win … bowed out of championship contention after a quarterfinals defeat to Sammy Brooks (Iowa).
2015-16 (Redshirt)
As a redshirt, posted a 7-3 unattached record with three pins … earned a fifth-place podium finish at the Michigan State Open (freshman/sophomore division) ... recorded his first redshirt pin in 2:07 at the EMU Open (11/7), where he went 2-2 … earned a fifth-place finish at the MSU Open (11/15) with two pins, both coming in the wrestle-backs … went 5-1 overall at the MSU Open, losing only his first match before rattling off five wins in the wrestle-backs, culminating in an 8-4 decision over Connor Wagh (Bucknell) in the fifth-place bout.
