Spring Practice Report No. 8 - McDaniel, Green & Latham -

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Larry McDaniel joined the Indiana coaching staff as defensive line coach on Jan. 21, 2014. He spent 2010-12 as defensive line coach at Bowling Green State University.
A four-year starter (1989-92) at nose guard and a senior captain with the Hoosiers. McDaniel graduated in 1993 with a bachelor's degree in business management. Bowling Green won the 2013 MAC Championship, played in the Little Caesars Pizza Bowl and finished the season with a 10-4 record.
McDaniel stopped by to speak with IUHoosiers.com's Jeremy Gray following Tuesday's eighth spring practice:
McDaniel is coaching two of IU's eight freshman All-Big Ten selections last season in defensive tackles Ralph Green III and Darius Latham. Green also garnered freshman All-American honorable mention from CollegeFootballNews.com.
The 6-5, 307-pounder started nine times and appeared in all 12 games. He posted 25 tackles, one sack, 4.5 tackles for loss (13 yards), one forced fumble and two blocked field goals.
Green made four solo stops, with the sack, two TFLs and the forced fumble at No. 4 Ohio State. Following the performance, he collected Big Ten co-Freshman of the Week accolades.
The San Antonio native was a three-time IU defensive player of the week (Wisconsin, Ohio State and Purdue) and was recognized as IU's special teams player of the week (Penn State).

Latham appeared in all 12 games alongside Green. The 6-5, 296-pound true freshman delivered 22 tackles with two sacks (14 yards), three tackles for loss (16 yards), one fumble recovery and three pass breakups.
An Indianapolis native and North Central High School graduate, Latham came on strong to close out the year. He added four stops with a half-TFL at No. 17 Wisconsin and made three tackles with the fumble recovery the next weekend at No. 4 Ohio State.

Indiana returns to practice on Thursday and Saturday. IU's annual Cream & Crimson Spring Game will take place at Memorial Stadium on Saturday, April 12. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m. ET and BTN2Go will broadcast the game.
