Question:
A student-athlete would like to play in a tournament over break. Two questions:
- What is required to permit her to play in "outside competition?"
- What if the tournament pays the winning team $500?
Answer:
- an entry blank
- the will to win
- approval from the AD (this is the answer I was looking for)
- a tennis racquet (if entering a tennis tournament)
- The winning team can not accept the $500 if there are any NCAA student-athletes on the team. A student-athlete could keep expenses if players on all teams received expenses from the tournament host or sponsor. If not, she can not receive cash based on her finish. If it is in the summer, she could receive merchandise or a gift certificate, but not cash.
