Indiana University Athletics - Compliance - Question of the Week
| ndiana Athletics - Compliance - Question of the Week Thursday, April 2, 2015 |
Questions:
1: During a prospect's official visit, can the student host use the $30/day entertainment money to go to "The Latest Glaze" and purchase time to use the store's paints, stencils, sponges, etc. to decorate blank pieces of pottery?
2: What meal plan should an incoming freshman on a full athletics scholarship sign up for as part of his/her 2001-2002 RPS Housing/Meal Contract?
Answers:
1: Yes, but the prospect could not take the item with him or her as 13.7.5.5 precludes the use of host money to purchase "souvenirs." If the prospect paid for his or her time AND for the piece of pottery (host money not used by the prospect or the student host for any portion of the activity), then he or she could take it with him or her (or arrange for the store to ship it at his or her cost after the 5-day baking process to glaze the pottery). IU Athletics and/or the student host couldn't arrange or pay for either the piece of pottery or shipping costs.
2: For an incoming full-ride freshman (who would therefore be living in the residence halls for the first time), the appropriate plan to check would be Meal Plan A $2850 (2600 RPS points and 250 IMU points). If he or she would also be participating in the IU Athletics Training Table, the appropriate amount for Training Table would be deducted from this amount. Also, remind your student-athletes that they will need to budget to make sure they have enough meal points to last through each semester -- because once they run out of meal points, they will have to pay their own way at that point. Please contact Mary Ann Rohleder if you have any questions concerning which plan a student-athlete not on a full-ride should select or how many points will be deducted for opting to attend Training Table.
