Question:
If the Men's Golf team is traveling to Orlando for competition and training during Spring Break, can Coach Mayer take them down to Miami for a day at South Beach and a Miami Heat game in the evening?
Answer:
No, the NCAA permits institutions to provide entertainment within a 100-mile radius of competition. Since Miami is more than 100 miles from Orlando, we could not pay for any expenses (including travel) for the above entertainment. Further, the restrictions on entertainment also extend to practice. So, Mike could not take the team down to Miami to practice for the day unless there was also a competition (w/in a 100 mile radius) associated with the trip to Miami.
