Compliance Question Of The Week
Question:
How many contacts and evaluations does a coach use if he or she talks to the prospect's guidance counselor at 1:00 p.m., watches the prospect's practice at 3:00 p.m., and makes a home visit that evening to meet the prospect and the prospect's parents?
Bonus Question #1:
What, if anything, does the coach need to do before going to the prospect's high school?
Bonus Question #2:
What, if anything, does the coach need to do following this particular recruiting trip?
Answer:
In all sports, but football- The coach uses one evaluation and one contact (d). [13.1.8.9] In football - Such observations (evaluating the transcript and observing the practice) that occur during a permissible contact period (the only time FB can make a contact) shall count only as a contact per Bylaw 13.02.3.1 - so the answer for football is (a). [13.1.8.9]
Bonus Answer #1:
The coach needs to get permission from the executive officer of the high school.
Bonus Answer #2:
After the visit the coach needs to log everything in the recruiting folder of the individual prospect. The evaluation and contact can only take place after July 1 of junior year...in this situation it would take place during the prospects senior year because school is in session. In football, this would have occurred during the winter contact period.
