Compliance Question Of The Week
Question:
If a school grants a general release to a student-athlete interested in transferring, does a coach still need an actual hard copy of the release before he or she can contact the prospective transfer student?
Answer:
Yes, Bylaw 13.1.1.3 specifically requires written permission. A general release to contact a transfer would allow any institution to contact the student-athlete. A specific release would limit the permission to the school(s) listed. This documentation should be kept in the prospect's log, so that we have verification of permission to contact if there is ever a question down the road.
