Question 1: Why is it necessary for the head coach to review the Certified Eligibility List each team he or she receives one from the Eligibility Officer?
Answer: To make sure that your athletes are certified to compete and of course it is always good to know if there is someone who is not eligible so you can take steps to get them eligible.
FYI - The Certified Eligibility List is required to be signed by the AD/SWA, FAR and Registrar. It must be faxed to the Big Ten prior to a team's first competition. The Big Ten also requires that we recertify each team at the beginning of second semester. Addendums are required anytime there is an addition to the team's roster (and before that student-athlete competes). This is a Big Ten rule (Rule 14.10.C) and not an NCAA rule at this time.
