Compliance Question Of The Week
Question: If a coach initiates or arranges a chat room or instant messenger session with a prospect does it count as the institution's one countable telephone call per week?
Answer: Here are two excellent responses (and everyone who replied to this QOTW answered correctly!):
>
> From Amy Robertson: YES it is your one phone call for the week..but if the prospective initiates the call then it does not count as the one phone call per week.
>
> From Katie Weismiller: Yes...it must also be after July 1 of their Junior year in high school. You can however...respond to an instant messenger message at anytime...even in their freshmen year!
Institutions should note that electronic interaction through instant messenger is considered a telephone call pursuant to Bylaws 13.02.12 and 13.4.1-(d). Thus, if an institutional coaching staff member prearranges or initiates a conversation with a prospect, that conversation must be counted as an institutional telephone call that week (e.g., the institution's one call that week). However, consistent with the regulations regarding regular telephone calls, if the prospect initiates a conversation with a coaching staff member through instant messenger, the conversation is considered a telephone call but does not count as an institutional telephone call that week.
