Compliance Question Of The Week
Question 1: Under what circumstances may a student manager fill in and practice with a team if the team is short a student-athlete due to illness, injury or class?
Answer 1: Only if the student-athlete has completed all the steps (signed the compliance paper work, received approval from the eligibility office and has clearance from the training room staff). Also, a manager who has completed all of the steps can only practice with the team on the road IF he or she is eligible to compete (and is part of the official travel squad numbers). So, male practice players and managers (who are cleared to practice) should not be practicing with the women's teams on the road, since they are not eligible to compete. [LAC 09/21/01]

Answer 2: No, Bylaw 14.1.4.1 requires that student-athletes sign the NCAA drug test consent form prior to practicing.
Question 3: Can a volunteer coach receive a meal in conjunction with a prospect's official visit to our campus?
Answer 3: No, volunteer coaches are not permitted to receive a meal, free of charge, in conjunction with a prospect's official visit to campus. [S 10/29/93]
