Indiana University Athletics
Compliance Question Of The Week
Question 1: Can an IU athletics department staff member give his/her complimentary football/basketball tickets to a volunteer coach?
Answer 1: No, the rules prohibit the department or staff members from giving a volunteer coach complimentary tickets, except for two complimentary admissions to home athletics contests in the volunteer coach's sport. However, a volunteer coach could accompany a staff member as a guest to a game.
Question 2: Can an IU athletics department staff member give his/her complimentary football/basketball tickets to a fifth year senior who has exhausted his/her eligibility?
Answer 2: No, this would be considered an impermissible extra benefit. However, the staff member could sell his/her tickets to the volunteer coach or the 5th year (or former) SA at the normal ticket price. We strongly recommend that you accept a check as payment (as opposed to cash), so there is a record of payment.
