Compliance Question Of The Week
Question:
True or False: It is permissible to immediately begin recruiting a prospect who signed a National Letter of Intent to attend another institution, but the prospect did not attend any classes at that institution for the academic year designated in the NLI.
Answer:
False ? The NLI recruiting ban remains in effect until we have one of three documents on file: (1) written verification that either the NLI was declared null and void by the conference office of the signing institution, (2) written verification from the signing institution that it will not have athletics financial aid available for the next term the signee is interested in attending at IU (which should also be copied to the conference office of the signing institution), or (3) a copy of a properly executed qualified release agreement (in which case the signee will have to appeal for a full release due to extenuating circumstances or lose a year of eligibility and have to sit for a year).
