Compliance Question Of The Week
Question:
If a high school or junior college coach requests a game film from an IU coach for purposes of strategy (e.g., to look our defense), is it permissible to provide one?
Answer:
No. Even though the request has nothing to do with recruiting, we are still bound by the provisions of Bylaw 13 when dealing with coaches of prospects. Bylaw 13.4.1 lists all the recruiting materials which may be provided to prospects and coaches of prospects. The list is all-inclusive...if it isn't listed it cannot be provided. In the case of a game film, it would be considered a highlight film and would fall under the provisions of Bylaw 13.4.2.1, which permits us to show a film to a coach but we may not send a film or allow a coach to keep the film. High school or junior college coaches would be permitted to come to campus to watch our film, but may not take film with them. We would also be permitted to show a high school or junior college coach a film at their school, but could not leave the film with them. [13.4.1 and 13.4.2.1]
