Question:Can a coach contact, telephone or send written correspondence to an individual who has not yet started classes for the ninth grade?
Answer:N o, a coaching staff member may not contact, telephone, or send written correspondence to an individual (including an individual who has not started classes for the ninth grade) prior to the time period designated for such an activity in accordance with NCAA recruiting regulations. A coaching staff member may observe an individual participating in athletically related activities prior to the ninth grade, inasmuch as there are no prescribed dates in which it is permissible to engage in evaluation activities.
