Compliance Question Of The Week
Question 1:What is a tryout
Answer: Per NCAA definition, a tryout is considered practiceQuestion 2:
When can tryouts be conducted?
Answer:
Tryouts can only be conducted with enrolled students, not prospects.
Per Big Ten rules: Tyouts may only be conducted during the sport's 20-hour per week playing and practice season. For example, basketball may not conduct tryouts until October 15. If a potential student-athlete would like to practice with your team outside of your playing and practice season, they must be processed as walk-on, not as a tryout participant. Question 3:
What does a potential student-athlete need to do prior to participating in a tryout?
Answer:
The coach must notify Chip.
• Chip will certify that the potential student-athlete is enrolled in 12 credit hours.
• Chip will administer the medical waiver form. (This form must be signed a physician. The tryout participant is responsible for obtaining the physician's signature.)
• Chip will administer the NCAA drug test and IU drug test consent forms.
• After these three steps are completed, the tryout participant will be certified to engage in a one-day tryout practice.
