Compliance Question Of The WeekFor the week of: January 31, 2006
Question 1: Would it be permissible for us to provide a women's soccer prospect with complimentary admission for her and two friends to tomorrow night's MBB game versus Northwestern?
Answer:
NO! WSO is in a dead period and no complimentary admissions are permitted per 13.02.4.4. Would your answer chance if it was a women's swimming prospect?
YES! WSW is not in a dead period, so a prospect in that sport can come to campus for an unofficial visit (or official visit if all of the requisite paperwork is completed and the parameters regarding an official visit are met) and receive complimentary admission for herself and any two people accompanying her on the visit to a home athletics event. [13.7.2.1]Question 2: Could a men's soccer prospect travel on Thursday for an official visit that would not start until Friday morning?
Answer:
Yes, provided the visit does not start until Friday morning and no IU staff member has contact with the prospect until Friday morning. [13.02.4.4] Does your answer change if the prospect signs an NLI with Indiana on Wednesday?
NO! 13.1.6.8-(b) specifically states that there can be no in-person, on- or off-campus contact with an NLI signee during a dead period, so the visit (any contact) could not occur before Friday morning.Question 3: FB is hosting a "Junior Day" on Saturday. If a sophomore prospect calls and requests tickets to the MBB game versus UConn, could we provide him with three complimentary admissions for him and any two people accompanying him on the visit?
Answer:
YES! 13.7.1 states that a prospect can visit campus at his/her own expense an unlimited number of times and that unofficial visits can occur before a prospect's senior year in high school. Can we provide the juniors (and the sophomore) with snacks during the "Junior Day" activities?
Only if the retail value of the snack is included in the admission price charged to all participants in the "Junior Day" activities. [13.7.2.1.1]
