Compliance Question Of The Week
Compliance Question Of The Week
Question:
Can a student-athlete practice during the first week of classes, if he or she is enrolled in less than the minimum full-time limit of 12 credit hours?
Answer:
Yes, provided the SA is eligible in all other ways. But they can practice ONLY during that first week/first five days of classes, they will need to be enrolled in a minimum of 12 credit hours after that to be eligible for competition. Bylaw 14.1.8.1.5.
Exception:
If a SA needs less than 12 credit hours to graduate at the beginning of a semester, he or she can be enrolled in just the final credit hours required, with written documentation of this from their school recorder on file with Compliance & Eligibility, and still be eligible to practice and compete. If these are new student-athletes to IU, they must have completed the required compliance paperwork and medical clearance to be eligible to practice only.
