Compliance Question Of The Week
Compliance Question Of The Week
Question:
As we start the second semester, what should I be doing and knowing?
Answer:
As always, a many-faceted answer, so let's try organize it:
1. CARA (Countable Athletically Related Activity) - whether you are in-season, or out, you will have limits and conditions beginning again on Monday the 10th of January. Out-of-Season sports can begin 8 hour weeks (2 days off; no more than 2 hours of skill) on Monday (but not before) and In-Season sports have to begin to re-observe the 20 hour / 4 per day / 1 day off limits which are relaxed over vacation. Know your timeframes and your conditions - and always ask us when in doubt. Your student-athletes have to be students again now, so please bear that in mind. And get your December logs in next week please.
2. Roster Management - like always, we need to know if you're deleting - or adding - anyone to your roster, so let us know as soon as that is in your mind. Adding takes planning and scheduling and does not get done in a day - communicate with us please. It's the new black. Individual additions / tryouters do NOT get to practice (or get gear) the same day they come to compliance or athletic training. Plan ahead where possible. Send Delete From Roster forms to us.
3. Same with staff updates - who is coaching your team? Do we know about it? What about all the assistants, the managers, the helpers and hangers on? We HAVE to know, and you HAVE to tell us!! Talk to Jenna about any changes to your fall form.
4. The compliance meeting on Tuesday was a classic! I know lots of people were out for various reasons, but still, it was a winner. All the materials are on the U:Drive as usual and you should go this website http://reesenews.org/2010/12/16/staying-in-bounds/7929/ and take the quiz we all did. It's well worth it. Either way, please take a look at the agenda, the notes and the PowerPoint so you can get up to speed with the stuff we discussed.
- Remember too, that when you do not tell us why/that you won't be at the monthly coaches' compliance meeting, you get an "unexcused absence" on the attendance sheet. That won't get you good scores on the below picture now, will it? Send your reason (or reason for your entire staff) to me before the meeting and copy your sport administrator. AWAY competition, for which we already have missed class/travel info, will work if you're not the chatty kind.
5. You should be scheduling your January team meeting with Jenna if you haven't already. Each Jan, we meet and "quiz" your team, check car-registrations, etc. so please get that set up soon.
6. All spring travel plans and missed class information needs to be in with us now. We need to know ANY and EVERY time your student-athletes are competing, travelling and/or missing class - home or away, IU or other. No exceptions. There's forms for everything - let us know.
Right-o then, that's a good 6 right there. If you follow-up with the above, you will be golden, and will earn a "green" on your compliance dashboard indicator......!
