Compliance Question Of The Week
Compliance Question Of The Week
Question:
Why are there so many rules about camp?
Answer:
Funny you should ask - there's even more now! As sent out yesterday, you can no longer own or run an institutional camp outside of 100 miles of here. But essentially, as the rationale of this draconian new condition points out, because a few people have abused the freedom of camp to recruit impermissibly in the past. Because as you know, camps are not for recruiting, and that's why there's so many rules.
Here at IU, we have a few of our own rules and regulations that need to be followed, and those are as followed:
1. Don't move forward with your camp without letting the compliance office know. We need brochure approval, dates, you name it. I am going to be a tough guy now and say the next announced camp we discover which has not been pre-approved by us will result in a secondary infraction if there is the slightest problem with the language, pictures, or anything. And that includes the HoosierSportsCamps portal too. And the paper.
2. Having your own - or using a non-IU - website to promote your camp is OK by compliance - though not sure what others would say - but only if we are made aware of it and had chance to OK the site/material. Next "unknown" website we find out about on the back end will result in some profiling and persecution which only true Machiavellians will appreciate.
3. Your camp advertising and everything surrounding it HAS to have "Open to all and any entrants" on it. If not = problems.
4. Same for non-institutional camps.
5. OK that's it for now - just please, please, please: let us know about your camp plans.
