Compliance Question Of The Week
Compliance Question Of The Week
Question:
Hasn't the NCAA just dealt with a ton of newly proposed legislation for the coming year(s)? What occurred?
Answer:
Excellent question! As you all know, Jenna did a TOP level PowerPoint presentation at the coaches' meeting on Tuesday and covered all the immediate new legislation and the rules that were passed for August 1st 2011. Reference materials from that meeting are found, as always, on the U:Drive. If you can't access that network drive for any reason, please contact Athletics Information Technology at 54978. The subfolder on the U:Drive is "Comply.Frm" and from there you'll be looking for "Monthly Meetings." Assuming you know the month, you can get everything from that Tuesday meeting right at your fingertips - including notes and commentary. Big Time.
So, the stuff in that PowerPoint is what was passed. Several other things were defeated - in this case a good thing. And then there's the 30 or so proposals which were sent back to the membership (that's us) as "out for comment". What this means in that between now and mid-March (3/16 to be precise), the proposals listed there are still alive, and awaiting feedback/comment from NCAA member institutions. Ways to do this include: talking to your coaches associations, talking to Bruce Jaffee or talking to your Big Ten liaison. You are welcome to talk with us too if you'd like more info and resources and details on certain proposals. Jenna is the new leg. expert and she'd be happy to chat and advise. Also, this can and should be done in your compliance program-specific meeting which you should strongly be considering arranging very soon.
OK, that's it - the excel document that you were recently linked to (and at U:comply.frm/New Legislation/2011 New Rules, excel document entitled "Convention Voting Results") also has sections within which will show the passed and defeated proposals too, so click on the relevant tabs at the bottom of the document and look around.
