Compliance Question Of The Week
Compliance Question Of The Week
Question:
Who can coach my team?
Answer:
ONLY the following people:
i. A countable coach. Page 56-57 in the manual tells you the number for your sport.
ii. A volunteer coach - some sports don't have them; others have one or two. Make sure compliance knows who yours is/are.
iii. A student-assistant coach. Currently no limit on number, though there ARE definite criteria to become one of these. Only compliance can OK this.
iv. A strength and conditioning coach can coach your student-athletes in strength and conditioning stuff - but not skill instruction. Believe me, they don't want to.
v. That's it! No sport-specific "non-coaching" staff members can coach; no administrative assistants, no alumni, no booster, hanger-on or camp employees. No athletic administrator, no professional coach, no former or current guru or hack. No local high school / former-athlete type or mystery dudes should be coaching. Even motivational speakers, outside consultants (who also cannot coach), guest speakers and others of that ilk should be carefully vetted, probably "okayed" by us and made sure NOT to be coaching.
