Question:
NEW NCAA LEGISLATION
Out For Comment
2008-12 - In MBK, for July Evals, to not require the "replacement recruiter" to return to campus before he recruits again. All four guys can recruit on and off during each 10 days.
2008-13B - Individual Sports - current S-A's can receive prize money to cover expenses if it's outside season, during summer and the necessary expenses come direct from event.
2008-15B - If required summer orientation is within 14 days of regular school starting, we can treat NLI signed prospects as S-A's from that point on. (International benefit?)
2009-19 - FOOTBALL - Could make one in-person, off campus contact with a junior at his school in spring eval period and have one other eval opportunity too.
2008-20A - FOOTBALL - Live evals can only happen at scholastically governed events (H.S. Assoc. / NJCAA). No more "Recruiting nights" with video, resumes, etc.
2208-20B - FOOTBALL - Similar to above, as thus only one will pass. This one is a bit stricter. Go HERE and select the bylaw to see/read more.
2008-25D - No NLI offers will be permitted until a prospect has completed his/her amateurism portion of the Eligibility Center website. (the compliance office doesn't like this one!)
2008-29 - Walk-on Prospects in ALL sports would be able to work out w/ S+C coach and do voluntary stuff on campus IF they are enrolled in IU's summer school.
2008-32B - Enrollment in a non-traditional IU course could be used to satisfy up to 50% of enrollment requirements for competition. With some conditions. 8/1/09
2008 -34 - If a PSA has a diagnosed Learning Disability and graduates from H.S. on time, he/she can use up to 3 courses taken after graduation for initial eligibility purposes. 8/1/09
2008-43 - Would allow us to give "fruit, nuts and bagels" to our athletes at any time as a snack. 8/1/09
2008-45 - (NOT FOOTBALL) - for out-of-season skill instruction before Sept 15 and after April 15, you could have more than one group of 4 athletes go in a separate facility.
2008-46 - BASEBALL - Start season 14 weeks (it's currently 13) before Friday of Memorial Weekend, and move practice start date to 3 weeks before 1st game.
2008-48 - BASEBALL - Would reduce number of games from 56 to 52. 8/1/09
2008-51 - Fall sports other than FB: Pre-season won't start until 16 days before 1st competition, except volleyball which would have 20 days. 8/1/09
2008-54 - GOLF - One event in Hawaii or Alaska can be exempted from total number of competition dates - if you play a school form one of those states. 8/1/09
2008-55A - W. SOCCER - 1st game cannot be before 12th weekend prior to Championship Weekend. 8/1/09
2008-57 - TRACK + FIELD - Hurdles, and steeplechase would be added to "Safety exception" sports, allowing for more instruction and coach-interaction.
2008-59 - SAND VOLLEYBALL - Would add it as an NCAA Emerging sport IN 2010. Just put this in here to see if you're still watching. Sandy V-Ball anyone?
2008-67 - SOFTBALL - August 1st to Thanksgiving would become a contact period and would include evaluations too.
2008-75 - Early Qualifiers must get a final transcript to the eligibility center by Feb 1st after initial enrollment at certifying institution. 8/1/09
2008-77 - 4-2-4 Transfers need to provide H.S. transcripts and well as college ones. It's more complex than this. Go SEE. 8/1/10
2008 - 79 - MEN'S BASKETBALL - NBA Draft guys can return to be eligible provided they write that they are coming back by the Tuesday before Spring Singing period. 8/1/09
