Compliance Question Of The Week
Compliance Question Of The Week
Question:
Is there a place where I can find a how-to or to-do checklist for various compliance requirements, such as for recruiting international student-athletes or working through an academic sponsorship case?
Answer:
Well, funny you should ask - there most certainly is! Attached are two informative documents prepared by our very own Anne Rohlman. These should be as fairly close to exhaustive as we can get. Remember though, the very nature of our work - just like coaching - is such that we will NEVER be totally prepared. Though we try, it's impossible to be able to plan for every possible scenario, every eventuality and every question which arises. Guess that's why we all still have jobs, eh? So, as always, ask if you're not sure, check first and if it seems to be too good to be true, then it is.
These two documents, like many others which are required for compliance, are housed on our communal departmental "U" Drive, also known as "apps$ (\\bl-athl-athmain.ads.iu.edu) (U:)" within a folder called "Comply Frm". No "o"! (It's a long story). You have to be on your main office computer (or otherwise logged in somewhere to your ADS account) to access this drive, and it will not be accessible through smart phones and such. These documents reference many other documents which are also located on the U:Drive. There are some live links to websites, which should be accessible from anywhere, but most links are for docs on the drive, so please bear that in mind. Ask if you can't get to any of these links from your normal office computer - sometimes that happens even if you're at work. Remember the old adage: "If you ask a question, you are a fool for 5 minutes; if you don't ask, you are a fool for life".
