Compliance Question Of The Week
Compliance Question Of The Week
Question:
How can I keep my prospect's visit unofficial?
Answer:
A prospective student-athlete may make an unlimited amount of unofficial visits to campus at anytime except during a dead period.
* NLI signers may now visit unofficially during a dead period.
* MBK & WBK may not have visitors in July.
* Unofficial visits may not occur for campers during camp.
Transportation: A prospect on an unofficial visit may only be transported on-campus and in standard vehicles that are normally used.
* Coaches and student-hosts may use their personal vehicles to transport a prospect ON campus.
* IU may provide transportation to view off-campus practice & competition sites, however an IU staff member must accompany the prospect. (Think Lake Lemon).
* We may not pay for ANY transportation expenses during an unofficial visit.
Meals: You may dine on-campus with an unofficial visitor, but you may not pay for any meals (or other expenses).
* Coaches may arrange to meet a senior or transfer prospect & his/her parents off-campus during an unofficial visit as long as the prospect & his/her parents pay their own way, it occurs during a permissible contact period, it is counted as a contact for that prospect, it is recorded on the off-campus contact, and no impermissible recruiters are there (e.g. administrative staff, student-athletes, professors, coaches family, etc).
* A prospect may pay the actual cost of a meal and eat with other prospects or enrolled student-athletes on-campus (pre-game private team meal, training table, etc). If done retain the receipt and store with the Unofficial Visit Form for that prospect.
Accommodations: Unofficial visitors may stay with a student-athlete in his/her dorm room, but may not stay in off-campus housing with a student-athlete during an unofficial visit.
Entertainment: We may provide three complimentary admissions to a campus athletics event.
* The prospect must enter the game before or with their guests (can be any two people accompanying the prospect).
* We may not provide parking or reserve additional tickets for purchase for an unofficial visitor.
* A student-host may attend the event with the prospect but he/she may not receive complimentary admission to do so.
Unofficial Visit Reminders:
* Boosters may not be involved in an official or unofficial visit in any way.
* We may not arrange personalized recruiting aids, special inducements or game-day simulations for any visitor.
* A prospect may not attend events in which a professional tryout or workout occurs.
* No aspect of any visit may be publicized by anyone in any fashion.
* No physical activities that the prospect participates in may be pre-determined, observed, or enforced by the coach. Physical activity on-campus during an unofficial visit needs to be the idea of the prospect.
* The Unofficial Visit Form must be completed and stored in the prospect's recruiting log folder or electronically on CyberWeb.
