Compliance Question Of The Week
Compliance Question Of The Week
Question:
How can I communicate / call my recruits?
Answer:
1. Know and stay within your call limits. After your countable call(s), do not call again until the next call week begins (Sundays through Saturdays). Even leaving (or attempting to leave) a message AFTER your countable call is impermissible.
2. A countable call is not so much about time (length) as it is about content....though anything that goes over 3 minutes will be questioned if you're not counting it. If your message is: "This is Coach Ace; please call me back" then OK. If you leave a 90 second recruiting pitch, then that's countable and you've reached your limit. Same with a recruiting chat with a family member. Ask if you're not sure. Extra info attached: well worth another look.
3. Document ALL calls. You may summarize consecutive messages / failed attempts, but come on, we've been over this: your calls MUST all be documented on your CyberWeb or your folder. It's part of the landscape.
4. Exceptions to call limits are: five days before, and for the time period of, the official (APPROVED BY US) visit; on the ONE day of permissible off-campus contact with a senior; and for the Weds-Fri of the NLI signing week (Mon-Fri for Football). Those three things allow for unlimited calls. Note that on logs.
5. Also, after the NLI or financial tender, calls by ANYONE are unlimited. As are texts. But NOT for walk-ons (not yet anyway: deposit+signed acceptance letter of admission will provide some relief AFTER May 1 but please confirm that with us first).
6. Remember that ONLY the countable (non-volunteer) coaches may make AND RECEIVE telephone calls from prospects / their families and even to/from their H.S. / AAU / Club coaches. We have allowed calls to coaches for non-recruiting purposes by otherwise non-permissible callers, but this is a rare and delicate exception. Like me. Academic folk, and one or two others (AD, SWA, FAR, WTF - you paying attention still?) can sometimes make calls too - check with us for the specifics first. ONLY after NLI signing can noncoaches make or receive calls. I put that entire rule below, because it's important.
7. AFTER Aug 1st, 2010, noncallers CAN make calls on or just before official visits for the purposes of travel and meeting arrangements, but not until then.
8. No-One can text EVER until after NLI signing at which point anyone can.
9. If one of your recruits signs with someone else, they're out of your life for good. Don't reach out to them or try to contact them.
10. Know, understand and follow your program's phone call policy. If you don't know it, ask Andy for a copy. Don't return ANY call without knowing who it is and that if it is a prospect, it's one who's old enough to receive that call. Do your research to find that out. Word of mouth ain't it!
