| Compliance Question Of The Week Question: Can my current student-athletes practice during summer? Can my incoming freshmen? And how do my athletes "live" during the summer. Can they all stay with me? Answer: Returning Athletes: - CAN (voluntarily) stick around for summer - CAN (voluntarily) train with Strength and Conditioning people - CAN keep some gear - CAN get academic and medical assistance. - Individual Sports (Tennis, Golf, T+F, Wrestling, Swimming/Diving) CAN (voluntarily) work out/train with their coaches - if they request this. - Safety Exception Sports (add Water Polo and Rowing to the previous list) also CAN train with their coaches - voluntarily & requested. - No Other Sports may train, practice or scrimmage in the presence of their coaches and any other activity must also be voluntary. - NO IU athlete, returner or incomer can live for free this summer or anytime (unless Mummy and Daddy are paying). And no, they can't live with you, even if they pay. This next bit was gonna be awesome but was forcibly deleted by my legal advisors..... Prospects can do some things, not others - depends on sport and scholarship. It's a brutal list of conditions. And the new proposal to "even things out" to allow non-scholarship athletes (walk-ons) in sports other than football and basketball to work out voluntarily in our facilities has still not been finalized. It might pass, but a little bird tells me it's not faring well. Stay tuned. I will try to talk more about what incomers can do on Tuesday. Well, not what they can DO on TUESDAY, but I'll talk about it then. What we do know is that ALL incoming prospects (including transfers) here to train voluntarily this summer have to have an IU medical completed AND register with the Compliance Office regarding where and how they are living in B'Town.
